Of course the first show, I am going to recommend is History Detective Podcast, with more than 35 episodes that look at different aspects of Australian History, including lesser known women from history and many stories about First Nations History.

This season I have had a focus on Australian History, the people who feature on the Australian money to be exact, but my episodes are bite sized. So today I thought I might do something a little different and give you some recommendations of some podcasts that focus on Australian History that I enjoy.
So, here are 8 Australian History podcasts that are well worth checking out.
The first one is Frontier War Stories. This podcast tells the stories of the conflict between the First Nations people and the colonists. It is hosted by Boe Spearim who interviews some fantastic guests and experts on the topic of the Australian Frontier Wars.
Number two is a fantastic podcast from a few years back called Shooting the Past. There are only 14 episodes, but every single episode is gold. Hosted by the incredible historian Clare Wright, I know this is going to sound counter intuitive for a podcast, but she takes a single historical photograph and explores the story behind the photo.
The third podcast is History Lab. Again, this is from a few years back and there are only about 20 episodes, but definitely start from the first episode about Lindy Chamberlain.
Next on the list would have to be The History Listen. What I love about this podcast is the broad variety of stories that are told. It is beautifully produced and incredibly interesting.
Now this next one is close to my heart. It is called Aussie History Podcast. It is one of the first podcasts that I started listening to. And back in 2018, before I stated my podcast, I emailed the host James Dampier and he did an episode about the Battle of One Tree Hill upon my request.
The sixth podcast is Living History with Matt McLachlan. This podcast is great for all things World War One and Two with a little bit on the Vietnam War too. There are about 100 episodes for you to sift through.
Seventh has to be the Australian Histories Podcast. This is great if you really want to go deep into a topic. The episodes are about an hour long and some of the topics have five to six episodes on them.
The final podcast is called Speakola. It is not strictly Australian History, but there is a bit of it in there. Each episode, Tony Wilson looks at a famous speech from history and chats to someone about the speech and the historical context. I particularly liked the episode on the Aussie feminist Jessie Street’s 1944 “Is it to be back to the kitchen?” speech.
